The lens through which we view the world

The lens through which we view the world

What if the way we view the world is not the way it truly is? What if we could understand and adjust the lens, and make decisions from that place of clarity? That's the question at the heart of my latest short blog post

October 27, 2024

I love this kind of weather, these bright, cool, crisp mornings

They're great for walking and thinking

What they're not so great for is capturing on a phone camera. The light bounces off everything - the glare and reflections stop you from capturing the true picture

It reminds me of my old manual film camera that I probably still have in a box somewhere. I used to have a Polaroid filter you could fit over the lens. It was a bit like magic

Turn it to the right angle, and all the reflections would just disappear. Everything obscuring the image would be gone

So you could take a picture through glass or down into water and discern all the detail of what was beneath

Our minds aren't so different from a camera. We’re taking in so much information every day. So much more than we can possibly process on a conscious level

Our filters - the lenses we wear - dictate how we choose to act on the information we receive

Lenses that allow through some information, and obscure the rest, to avoid overloading our heads with all that could be seen

What if we could understand the lenses through which we view the world?

If we had a Polaroid filter, and could turn the angle of the lens

Just a little

A little more

A little more…

Until, suddenly, so much would become clear

Until, suddenly, we would understand what we had not been seeing
